Uploading- the mysteries of FTP

If you are using Director to create Shockwave files, you must have a server to place them on that supports the filetype. Your sys admin can help with this.

File Transfer Protocol is the way files get from your local computer to a server or vice versa. FTP software must be confiigured with your access information that is provided by your Internet Service Provider or Webmaster.

The "server" can only serve up the pages to the browser's requests once they are located in the proper directory. Servers that are to be hosts for Shockwave files must have the appropriate suffixes appended to their mime type support directories.

Most FTP clients also allow you to set restrictions and permissions on who can access the files.
