The Long Lick- Secon saltworks opened west of the Alleghenies by Charles
Broughton in 1785. This lick was later owned and operated by Henry Crist
and Solomon Spears. They were boating salt kettles up the Salt River to
use in the works when they were ambushed by Indians in the famous "Battle of the Kettles".(see also site v)
