Home Again

Somebody told me that I could never go home again

Somebody told me  that it could never be the same

But with thoughts and memories and dreams and fantasies

Where everything returns, all the hopes the cares, concerns

Who says you can’t go home, Home again?

Home again, I must go home again

To find the path ahead, remember where I’ve been

And though things change many things still remain

Home - I must go home again!

Somebody told me that I could never go home again

Then they told me that it could onluy cause me pain

But all the people and the places, the times andthe faces

All the laughter and the tears, the smiles and all the fears

Who says you can’t go home, Home again?

Home again, I must go home again

To find the path ahead, remember where I’ve been

And though things change many things still remain

Home - I must go home again!

This one was written as I saw the dynamic changes my little community went through after bussing hit Louisville, KY. A mass Exodus changed the homeplace almost overnight- coupled with this was the construction of my Dad’s new house on his farm. It was during this time that I spent a lot of time with my Grandfather, plumbing the depths of his memory after his stroke and establishing a relationship with him.
