Tree of sorrow- cross of pain, where the innocent was slain

He took upon Himself the cost in the shadow of the cross.

The beams so bitterly have bound the one who they callously crowned

Would all the promises be lost- in the shadow of the cross?

Now as He utters "It is Done" The crossroad of all time is formed

A stake is driven for all men- a crossway between earth and heaven!

The wood of the cross is the tree of life

The wood of the cross is the tree of Life!

Damnation's desperate dirge of death now fades as righteousness finds breath

Now He is raised from dispair and loss- to bring hope from the shadow of the cross!

The darkness now away has rolled From Like a stone from heaven's shining goal

The light of life beams from those beamsHe brought from death what Life can mean!

Now the blessing of the cross He gives as I take His cross so shall I live

From death despair and pain and loss

He brings hope from the shadow of the cross!
