Cup and Bread

If God makes your cup a sweet one, drink it with grace, for it shall suffice.

If He has made it bitter, drink it in communion with Christ.

I God grinds you in the mills of life, He may be making pure flour

To bake good bread to nourish men- to give them strength and power.

He ruins our sanctuaries and sweeps them clean of leaven.

Purges the will of its reasons and builds in us His Heaven

He breaks us like unleavened bread made of flour sifted so fine

He squeezes us like ripened fruit ‘til our life shall flow with sweet wine

So I will remember when I take this cup the one who was poured out for me

I will remember as I drink it up, the truth that is setting me free.

I will remember when I eat the bread the broken body of Christ

That by His provision our souls are fed by the merits of His sacrifice.
