Words in My Mouth

Somewhere in a backwoods church a preacher lifts his eyes
And a word from heaven comes on down- a word from God on high
Somewhere some sweet gospel song is wafting through the trees
And hearts devastated by the blood are touching souls in need

But somewhere else the words are raised and hollow hearts ring long
For the walk is anything but straight and the singer rapes the song
Some sentimental feeling --there to send your senses reeling
But never finding a holy refrain Never breaking their worldly chains

Let the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart
Be acceptable in thy sight oh Lord my strength and my redeemer!

Where are the words of your mouth
Are they going north while you're walking south?
Are they echoes of feelings too hollow to hold
To fraught with emotion and flesh to be told?

Let the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart
Be acceptable in thy sight oh Lord my strength and my redeemer!
