No Alibi

I stand accused and guilty

I cannot plead my case

Because I do not have one

Such a waste, such a waste

For I have surely lived a lie

Worn the mask of a righteous man

I’ve no defense, no alibi

And no excuse on which to stand.

But standing up for me I see a cross

And I will cling unto it at all costs

For what I need is mercy

Forgiveness that is free

The blood by which your grace has covered me.

For my guilt and shame

My filthy rags and pain

You’ve exchange for righteousness and peace

And now I stand in awe,

Found guilty by the law

But by your grace I’ve received my release…

For I have surely lived a lie

Worn the mask of a righteous man

I’ve no defense, no alibi

And no excuse on which to stand.

But standing up for me I see a cross

And I will cling unto it at all costs

For what I need is mercy

Forgiveness that is free

The blood by which your grace has covered me.
