Upward Road

Upward Road

The bridge is out the road is closed

The path is dark and so it goes

The shortest distance between two points

Is further than we can go

If the points are heaven and the earth

For us wayfaring strangers here below.

Roadblocks potholes and dead ends, detours and delays

Take us to the ditch of life going our own ways.

The path is narrow and itís straight

The lights are always stop or wait

Carrying more than our legal load

Unless youíre on that upward road.

We like the roads that are crooked and wide

And we donít want a sign ,a map or a guide

Weíll take the ruts and set our speed

Because weíre such a lawless breed

Roadblocks potholes and dead ends, detours and delays

Take us to the ditch of life going our own ways.

The path is narrow and itís straight

The lights are always stop or wait

Carrying more than our legal load

Unless youíre on that upward road.
